Representation of Jennifer Lopez

Costume: Jennifer Lopez is wearing a very fashionable outfit on the cover of the magazine. The colours of the outfit are bold and are likely to be the first thing the reader notices on the cover. This shows that Jennifer Lopez is the key of the magazine cover. The message conveyed by Jennifer Lopez wearing this outfit is that she is a highly fashionable person in herself.

Facial Expression: Jennifer Lopez on this cover is smiling. This is too show the audience that she is a kind and friendly person. It also shows that Jennifer Lopez is a beautiful woman and her face expression helps show that. Jennifer Lopez's eyes are looking straight at the reader which shows a positive relationship between the two which will most likely make the reader want to pick the magazine up.

Body Language: Jennifer Lopez is posing with her hand on her hip and is looking slightly to the side on the cover pic. This portrays Jennifer Lopez to be kind and friendly, but also shows her to be strong and dominant.

Camera Shot: On the cover of this magazine, the photographer has taken a mid-shot of Jennifer Lopez. You can see most of Jennifer Lopez body and most importantly the clothing that she is wearing which shows the fashion element.

Setting, Lighting & Colour: The shot of Jennifer Lopez is taken in front of a plain white backdrop which shows the importance of Jennifer Lopez that the only thing you notice is her, as there is nothing else to look at in the background. The lighting and colour also makes the reader notice Jennifer Lopez first over any other thing.

Costume: Jennifer Lopez on the FHM magazine cover is wearing very little to show her whole body which implys that she has nothing to hide. Her attire is to show Jennifer Lopez's sex appeal which is different to what she is attempting to show on the other magazine covers where she is featured. The costume is also to attract the target audience which is men as FHM stands for "For Him Magazine".

Facial Expression: Jennifer Lopez is looking straight at the camera to show a good relationship with the audience. The facial expression is also to invite people to pick up and read the magazine. Her face is also quite serious and she is not smiling she is more inviting.

Body Language: On this magazine cover Jennifer Lopez is posing with her hand on her hip. This could have different meanings. The hand on her hip pose shows Jennifer Lopez's authority but again is also inviting.

Camera Shot: On this cover the camera shot being used is a long shot. This is so Jennifer Lopez's whole body can be seen, which will attract the audience. Jennifer Lopez is also place over the title of the magazine which shows her importance and is saying that she is more important than the magazine title.

Setting, Lighting & Colour: On this cover Jennifer Lopez is posing ontop of sand and infront of a blue backdrop which could give the impression of a beach. This makes the costume that Jennifer Lopez is wearing very appropriate as a bikini is something she may wear on a beach. The lighting is also very soft.

Costume: On this cover Jennifer Lopez is wearing a red and orange dress which could symbolise heat or even the summer. The dress makes Jennifer Lopez sexy but also respectable at the same time. The dress is very stylish which is to intend that Jennifer Lopez is very fashionable and knows her to dress well.

Facial Expression: Jennifer Lopez on this cover has more of a day to day look compared to other magazines where is she is really posing. This makes the make up on Jennifer Lopez's face more visable and the audience may be interested in that.

Body Language: Jennifer Lopez seems to be quite relaxed on this magazine cover. She is posing but looks a more natural pose maybe to the others. Relaxation could be the theme of the magazine again as the colours and costume seem to represent summer, and summer is a time people usually relax or go on holiday for the sun.

Camera Shot: On this cover of Cosmopolitan a mid-shot is used of Jennifer Lopez. This is to show the sexiness of Jennifer Lopez but also the details such as her costume and also her make-up.

Setting, Lighting & Colour: Jennifer Lopez is infront of a red backdrop on this magazine cover. This again goes with the theme of heat and summer. The red backdrop also goes nicely with the dress that Jennifer Lopez is wearing. Red could also symbolise love and passion to show that Jennifer Lopez can be hot but also a passionate woman.

Costume: The costume that Jennifer Lopez is wearing on this cover isn't as important as the costumes that she is wearing on the other magazine covers. The main aim of this magazine cover is to show another side of Jennifer Lopez and to show that she is a good and caring mother. So Jennifer Lopez is just wearing casual attire to show that although she is famous she still has to be a good and caring mother.

Facial Expression: On this cover Jennifer Lopez is looking and smiling at the camera. This shows a kind and friendly nature to her. It also shows that she is happy and a caring parent to her children.

Body Language: Jennifer Lopez on this cover is in a relaxed and comfortable position to show she is again happy and friendly. She is holding the babies in her arms to show the care for them and maybe also her protection for them.

Camera Shot: A mid-shot is being used to capture everything that is important in this image. You can see Jennifer Lopez but also you can see both of the babies fully. The shot is quite close so you can see both Jennifer Lopez and her babies clearly, this is to show that she is comfortable to show them and also proud.

Setting. Lighting & Colour: Jennifer Lopez is sitting on a sofa which is a normal and common place where a mother would hold her children this is so the audience again can see although she is famous she also has to be a normal mother. The colours are also very soft.

  1. Some good work here Lee, good use of media language and attempts to understand the way Jennifer Lopez has been represented. Try to think more about the connotations for example the way she is kneeling down on the cover of FHM magazine, maybe she is being quite submissive? Also think about the colours that are used, especially on the last cover as you seem to ignore it.
