Title Blocks

Mojo

On this contents page there is just one image which is at the bottom. This image is the main focus of the page and the first thing the reader would notice. The background which looks like a park as it has grass and trees, has been blurred so that the focus is on the lady who is singer Corinne Bailey Rae. The magazine is mainly about up and coming music and singers so Colin Bailey Rae fitted that description. The text is seperated into two coloumns which makes it easy to understand and also easy to read. The title block at the top of the page which is "MOJO" takes up quite a bit of space and is bold so the audience can quickly see it and also identify it.

Title Block Analysis




The title "NME" is bold and really stands out. It is very easy to read and audiences will immediately be able to identify it. NME is the abbreviation for New Musical Express, this shows that the magazine it about music that is new and this may appeal to a younger audience. The NME really stands out as it is red with a white boarder ontop of a black background. The text is also in capital letters. It is easy to recognize and is very distinctive.




The word "KERRANG!" is in bold capital letters with an explanation mark on the end. The font and style looks to go with the genre of the magazine which is Rock. The word KERRANG! is used as a title as it the sound that a guitar makes. A guitar is a musical instrument that is used very frequently in Rock music. The title block has what it seems to be cracks in the letters and also a blood splat under the "G" this could be to show that the magazine is about the dark and gothic type of music.

Analysis Magazine Covers

You can tell from the front cover you can tell that inside there will be articles about such artists as Snow Patrol and 50 Cent. The target audience of this magazine is for age 20 to 40 and for fans of established rock music. The central image of the front cover is a picture of Cheryl Cole. There is direct mode of address which engages the audience. The facial expression shows that she is being seductive. The reason that the magazine have chosen to use Cheryl Cole as the person on the front cover is because she is one of the most famous people in Britain at the moment with a number 1 album, number 1 single and also for being a judge on the hit show “The X-Factor”. The anchorage text on the cover says “3 Words... Cheryl Cole Rocks”. This implies that Cheryl Cole makes rock music which is a controversial statement as many people would say that she does pop music. There are a couple buzzwords on the magazine cover including “previewed” and “introducing”. The letter “Q” which is the name of the magazine is slightly tilted to the left. There is a puff on the right of the magazine talking about an article inside the magazine about “John Lennon”. The slogan of the magazine is “The UK’s biggest music magazine”. This tells readers that it is a very successful magazine. It will attract readers as they will think it is a quality magazine and will want to buy it. The colours that are mainly used are red, white and black. This creates a dark and almost devilish atmosphere but also creates a seductive atmosphere. The magazine uses quite a few different strategies to attract the readers. They use such strategies as having a big celebrity on the front cover, a very good slogan and also good puffs.


The name of this magazine is KERRANG! and the logo which is featured at the top of front cover is bold and in capital letters. The logo looks to be cracked and this goes with the genre of the magazine which is Rock. There is also an explanation mark at the end of the title KERRANG!. The word KERRANG! is the sound that a guitar makes, a guitar is an instrument used a lot in Rock music.
There is a block at the top which contains the statement “Teach you how to be a guitar God”. This could really interest the target audience as the target audience is fans of Rock music and a guitar as an instrument but also an icon of Rock music. The audience could be interested in learning to play the guitar.
The anchorage text tells you that the band “All Time Low” are new stars about to hit the UK. The words “All Time Low” are bold, in capital letters and really bright in yellow. This is used so readers can easily identify.
The magazine cover has such puff words as “Brand New” and “Plus” this attracts readers as they will think the news is very up to date and that the magazine also has some bonuses.
There are posters inside the magazine. This makes the customers think that they are getting more for their money. This is a usual factor of KERRANG! magazine.
The main image is the band “All time low”. They are all looking straight at the camera, this is called direct mode of address. You can tell by the pose and facial expression of the lead member that they are Rock artists. The lead member is leaning forwards and is in front of the rest of the members to distinguish him from the rest.
